Wise Woman Program

WISEWOMAN is a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) program designed to assist 40-64 year-old women to reduce their risk for heart disease and promote a heart healthy lifestyle. Women must be currently involved in the BCCCP (Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program).
 

 

 

General Information

bullet Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in Michigan.
bullet About 45% of CVD deaths could be prevented with changes in lifestyle behaviors.
bullet One in 10 women can expect to develop some form of CVD before age 60.  As they age, their rate increases.
bullet In the year 2000, 43% of deaths for women living in Michigan were due to CVD.

Services Available

bullet Blood pressure testing.
bullet Cholesterol and glucose screening.
bullet Referral to a physician, if needed.
bullet Referral for additiional labwork, if needed.
bullet Counseling or guidance is available to participants for any lifestyle risk factors if improvement is desired.

By Appointment Only.
Monday thru  8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Eligibility and Cost

Low-income women from age 40-64 who are enrolled in the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program are qualified for WISEWOMAN.  Services offered may be FREE to women who qualify.
